Our Programs

Children between the ages of 6 and 18 months participate in a supportive and personalized infant program. At this stage Sunnyside Day Care provides a more customized program that supports the infant’s needs as much as possible. There are plenty of group activities and an outdoor program twice a day for at least an hour, weather permitting. Our dedicate sleep room provides a personal crib to support each child’s sleeping requirements.

Children between the ages of 18 months and 30 months (2.5 years) within our toddler program begin the early stages of the socialization process. This exciting stage focuses on fine and gross motor skills, language development, and sensory development with plenty of directed play. The outdoor program is important at Sunnyside Day Care and we have a minimum of two hours of outdoor learning and play each day, depending upon the weather. The rest period is two hours every day and we provide toilet training in collaboration with your support at home.

Sunnyside Day Care’s preschool sits between the foundational toddler learning program and our enriched French and English kindergarten and is for children 2.5 years and older. Skills’ development, including writing one’s name, recognition, counting, building, creative development and plenty of socialization with purposeful play-based learning form the core of each preschool day. There is a rest period each day and two hours of outdoor play. The additional programming at this stage includes music, sport and art instruction.

The enriched English or French kindergarten program is for those children 3 years and eight months as of September 1st each year. This is an exciting time for parents and children alike, as the preparation for grade one continues with increased self-awareness and overall development. Music, sport and development in the arts continue but there is a greater emphasis on skill development at this stage and parents have a choice between our enriched English or French programs. The difference between each program is the amount of French taught by our Franco-phone teacher. Full-day attendance is encouraged for your child because of the 10:1 student to teacher ratio, but we also offer public school escort services for those who would like to participate in the half-day junior and senior kindergarten public school programs.

For parents seeking increased socialization before a full or part-time kindergarten program but don’t want a full-day kindergarten program this is a good introductory program. Sunnyside Day Care created the nursery school for children 2.5 years or older. The daily program is two and one-half hours and provides an opportunity for your child to participate with other children in an interactive setting with exposure to structured play-based learning with English and French language lessons.

Sometimes children want to have fun! Sunnyside Summer Camp is an opportunity for children and staff alike to engage in a less structured but equally safe and educationally focused setting without as much emphasis on daily or weekly lesson plan goals. Sunnyside Summer Camp is for children between the ages of three and seven years of age looking for a fun , safe experience knowing laughter, smiles, plenty of sunshine and a little learning are what makes the summers in High Park and Roncesvalles Village great!
